A set of open-source civic tools built on Kenya's public data that might be relevant for openAFRICA:

Parliamentary accountability

Macho ya Wananchi — MP attendance records, CDF utilisation, and bill status for Kenya's 13th Parliament. Data: Mzalendo, Parliament of Kenya. GitHub (Apache 2.0)

County government

Hesabu — County budget execution data for 46 counties. Reveals which counties are spending development budgets and which are sitting on unspent allocations. Data: Controller of Budget quarterly reports. GitHub (Apache 2.0)

Agriculture and food security

JuaMazao — WFP live crop prices from 226 Kenyan markets. Spike alerts when prices exceed 20% above 12-month average. GitHub (Apache 2.0)

Water and drought

WapiMaji — Drought and water stress monitoring for all 47 counties. SMS alert pipeline for farmers (pending shortcode registration). Data: NDMA. GitHub (Apache 2.0)

Civic rights

Jibu — AI civic rights assistant grounded in the Constitution of Kenya 2010. Answers in Kiswahili and English. GitHub (Apache 2.0)

All tools are free, no login required, work on 3G, and are open source under Apache 2.0.
