Cannot use shuriken

Description
There's no way I can see to actually use shuriken in a battle. There's a greyed out button for Smoke Bombs since I'm not carrying any, that's it.

Did you head out with both and use the smoke or did you have smoke equipped, return to camp, and head out again with shuriken instead of smoke?
